Hela: of Mice & Magic Guide

Hela: of Mice & Magic beginner guide

Quick answer

In your first Hela session, follow the witch’s requests and the recipe book: gather ingredients on each trip, return to the cottage to brew, and use the new remedy or ability to open the next route. Practice Froggy’s leap, swing and glide early, and in solo use the Shade copies whenever a puzzle seems to need two mice. Do not grind for ingredients you have no recipe for yet.

The core loop

Hela’s progression is built around a repeated loop:

  1. Leave the cottage and explore forests, meadows, wetlands and burrows.
  2. Gather ingredients and resources.
  3. Return to the witch’s cottage and open the recipe book.
  4. Brew a potion or remedy.
  5. Use the new ability or tool to open a route, solve a puzzle or help a creature.
  6. Repeat with a new destination.

If you feel stuck, the answer is usually “you have not brewed the thing the next area expects yet” — not “you missed a hidden combat upgrade”.

FAQ

What should I do first in Hela?

Follow the opening requests. They introduce gathering, the recipe book, brewing and Froggy. Do not wander far before you have your first brew and a reliable way back to the cottage.

Should I pick up every ingredient?

Pick up what you can carry, but prioritise ingredients tied to a recipe you already have or a request you are trying to finish. The game is relaxed; there is no need to hoard everything early.

Is there combat I need to prepare for?

No combat is described in the official material. The challenge is traversal, physics puzzles, brewing and helping creatures, not fighting.
